What nail polish should I buy?

I'm in the eighth grade and turning 14 next month, and I want to start wearing nail polish. I have no experience with nail polish, except for this one time in the fifth grade where I was at a birthday party, and the birthday girl wanted us all to paint our nails. I do not wear any makeup because I find it inappropriate for girls my age, but I think nail polish is cute and compliments your clothes and looks.

I heard OPI is a good brand, but I haven't seen it at a Target before. It is also pricey compared to drugstore brands. I'm looking for a good brand that can be purchased at Target. The colors I am looking for to start off with are off white, black, yellow, red, and dark purple. I've seen these colors a lot in magazines. Are these colors okay to begin with? And is it necessary to buy a clear, top coat as well?

Thank you for your help!

What nail polish should I buy?
These are some of my favorite nail polishes that are available at Target --

Double Duty Strengthening Base%26amp; Top Coat: http://www.sallyhansen.com/product.cfm?p...

Super Shine Shiny Top Coat: http://www.sallyhansen.com/product.cfm?p...

Maximum Growth plus Nourishing Nail Color: http://www.sallyhansen.com/product.cfm?p...

Rimmel 60 Seconds Nail Polish: http://www.rimmellondon.com/US/products/...

Maybelline Express Finish Nail Polish: http://www.maybelline.com/Product/Nail/N...

P.S. If you want a recommendation, I'd say a deep blue like Chanel Blue Satin. http://bp3.blogger.com/_8D5qVf5VMxs/R02r...
Reply:essie is great...or just go to a salon and get a french manicure...that would be the best because french goes with anything!
Reply:Okay my nails are jacked ha.

But claires neon nailpolish is super cute

%26amp; so is black nailpolish. revlon works good.
Reply:yah opi is fabulous and target shuold have it...... and by the way im younger than 8th grade and i wear makeup every day of my life
Reply:well the top coat can add a little bit of shine.. to your nail.. black is really ugly i think but that is up to you on what colors you want to wear loreal is a great brand to buy and maybeline
Reply:you don't need to get opi, the bottles are huge and you won't be able to finish the colors before it dries. All nail polish from Target is good.

off white: is a good color, cream colors too are really nice for spring/summer

black: is in this season, but since you're young, young people will just think you're goth/punk or whatever

yellow: makes it look like you have fungus on your nails

red: is awesome, but also tends to make your hands appear pale

dark purple: is a good color, if there is a touch of pink.

what color i recommend for you is a Coral/orange color. It's young and fresh and will make your fingers look slightly more tan. Also, wear a base coat, if you leave on your nail polish too long (more than two weeks) it will stain your nails yellow. Your top coat will protect your polish, and your base and top coat polish is just clear nail polish.
Reply:Yeah, OPI is the best! U can sometimes find it @ JCPenney's , or at OPI.com ! good luck!!!!
Reply:Go to Rite Aid, they have the BEST! Most of it is NYC Newyork... I hate that brand because they test on animals but the polish is very good!
Reply:wow you sound extremely intelligent for a 13 year old.

and i don't buy the bit about makeup being inappropriate for a girl your age. unless you're amish.

be that as it may, wal-mart has the best nail polish i've ever used. the brand is nicole and i'm wearing the dark purple right now. it's fantastic.
Reply:Well, if you’re only starting to wear nail polish, your nails are probably pretty strong and you don’t have to worry about nail strengtheners or calcium top coats or stuff like that. I personally like professional brands such as OPI, china glaze, creative and I especially love channels nail polishes! Top coats basically make the nail polish stay longer and keep it from chipping, bottom coats will make it easier to take off, kind of like moisturizer before make up.
Reply:im not sure if they have this at target but Revlon has some great nail polish. they may not have a big variety but it is good nail polish.
Reply:I like Sally Hansen the best myself, and it should be available at Target. If you are just starting to paint your nails yourself, I'd start with a pale, sheer shade, which will show less if you end up getting some on the skin surrounding your nails.
