swan_silver1929 has it nailed. There is no chemical reaction, the remover merely acts as a solvent, loosening the pigments and separating them from the nail so they can be rubbed off by a cotton swab or paper towel or kleenex, etc.
Reply:if this is a research project i hope you tested the difference between those with acetone and those without. don't use pure acetone - it doesn't work as well and strips your nails. those before me have it totally right - like disolves like.
Reply:There isn't one, honey. Nail polish remover is just a solvent, there is no chemical change.... just like disolving sugar in water -- you still have sugar, you still have water. Evaporate the nailpolish remover, and the nailpolish is what remains.
Reply:I'd use press-ons and avoid the whole problem.
