Polish for boots??
Check with the company your boots are from. Many times they have their own brand of polish that you can order. Also rainbosports.com has a whole section for boot care. The best way to protect your skates will always be either boot covers or skate tape (I've never used it -- I think "war wounds" on skates gives them character!) and in the long run, some gouges, scrapes and wearing is totally unavoidable. Nail polish and polish remover may be too harsh on the leather. The boot polish will cover any nicks you may have. To clean your skates, I would just use a damp cloth, nothing harsh.

As for sharpening, make sure you take your skates to someone with experience. Ask skaters/coaches at your rink where they go....you'll probably find a number of answers, but one who does a "good job." Around here, some of my skaters have just gone to the rink to have their blades sharpened, which the people at the rink aren't trained to sharpen anything other than "mental rentals" and the sharpener is as old as the rink! We have a pro shop that does a much better job and has real experience, so I send them there and they say there is a very noticiable difference! You have to be careful who you trust your blades to because they can mess them up fairly easily.

Also it's best to let your skates dry out after skating...even if you wipe them off after skating, there is still some moisture. Take them out of your bag, take the soakers off and let them air out. This prevents rusting of the blades and water damage to your boots...also it's good to air out your boots so they don't get smelly! :)
Reply:yeah sure, well first, i haighly suggest that not to put nail polish remover on skates, cuz when i asked my pro-shop about that, they said that lots of people tried it and they said that it just takes the white paint off!! so i highly suggest you DON'T!! and second, sharpening you could just get at your pro-shop done! and it also depends how much you skate! i have my skating lessons once a week every friday, so i get my blades sharpened every 6 weeks! also, for cleaning your skates, you can use simple white boot polisher/scuff remover for leather, thats what i have! you can get it at any grocery store such as safeway! its no hassle! :) and last, there are chances of removing scuffs, but there aren't really chances of preventing them, cuz scuffs just happen when you work hard and are comitted and serious like some of us (me 2)! lol, anyway the come when your a real athlete and don't give up or back down! sooooooooooo, yah! hope this helped!
