Is Polish difficult to learn????

nd wants to learn some Polish so he can speak it with his staff.





He called the Polish culture centre in Dublin a to find out where he could get lessons and the woman on the phone laughed at him and told him that unless he has a really high aptitude for languages he wouldn’t be able to do it.





Is that true?





He doesnt expect to be fluent or anything he just wanted to learn some conversational stuff.





I know Polish isn’t at all related to English so that might be strange when you try to learn it but since he already speaks Gaeilge and that s not related to English it wouldn’t be such a shock to him.





Is it really hard would he just be wasting his time or is the woman exaggerating?

That foolish woman who works in the Polish Culture Center should be sacked. If anything, she should be encouraging and flattered that somebody would want to learn Polish, a language which is rich in culture, literature and folklore. That aside, it is difficult to learn and the grammar, like many Slavic languages, is quite hard for an English speaker to fathom. But determination and willingness will prove it out. With all the wonderful material on the internet, it makes the job of learning any language easier.


Here is a suggestion: try listening to some Polish singers such as Maryla Rodowicz. You can locate her material on youtube or her website http://www.marylarodowicz.pl where you will see written Polish as well as be able to access one of her recordings. Reply:Polish is a very hard language to learn due to the differnt writings. I am 13 years old and am able to write and speak Arabic, English (fluent), French (fluent), Spanish, Hungarian (fluent), and Italian. I think im gonna try polish soon, but right now I think that six lanuages is enough.
Reply:Yes, it is quite a difficult language. Nothing is impossible, but I'm sure it would take years of immersion to get it. Those slavic languages tend to be very hard to learn.
Reply:It hard to learn. But its depend on your friend. Some people have talent for language. They can speak at least 5 languages. No. He's not gonna wast his time. Forget about that woman. Nothing is impossible.
Reply:It is a very hard language to learn, a lot of letters in english are opposite to the ones in Polish.. He should try though, it's worth it.
