Does nail polish have an "expiration" date?

While cleaning out my closet I found a shoe box full of nail polish. I haven't bought any recently so I know some of them must be at least 2 years old. Is it bad to use old nail polish and does nail polish "expire"?

Does nail polish have an "expiration" date?
Doesn't really go bad, might thicken up though. It helps when you put them in the refridgerator. Add only a tiny amount of remover.
Reply:nail polish has a life, when you first get it, it is new, and good to use. but constant use makes it old. i'd say once you have to dip the brush more than twice to get it wet enough to cover 1 finger, it needs to go. how ever its not bad for your nails unlell you peel it off, it gets so thick that when you peel it off it gets rid of the top layer of nail, making your nails weak.

ways to keep the life of your nail polish long:

1. wash the brush every once and a while to prevent dry nail polish build up

2. don't leave bottle open while painting nails(it may take a little longer but if you don't the polish on the rim drys making the lid stick)

3. wipe the rim of the bottle of to prevent sticking

4. if it starts drying out add a few drops of water, mix thuroughly, and shake, to add moisture
Reply:They will thicken over time. But, before i would put remover in it to thin it out, I would go to a beauty supply store because they sell a thinner and it is cheap. It works better that polish remover because it help the polish keep it shine. This product also takes just a few drops.
Reply:it doesn't have an expiration date, but check for yourself, cause after a while it can get really sticky and gooey.
Reply:no nail polish dont expire but to keep it you must shake it well then put just a little remover in it to bring it back
Reply:It does, but yours should be ok, open the bottle and if the polish is thick and goopy even after shaking it, then it is expired, you'll also notice if you can't really smooth it out when polishing your nails, and it's just goes on thick and gunky. But depednding on the brand it should still be ok, just try and paint one nail with it and you'll be able to tell. If it's a little gunky try putting a little bit of nail polish remover in it and shaking it up that will also help and you will be able to get a few more uses out of it. Good Luck!
Reply:here in the u.s. nail polish doesn`t have an expiration date, but after 2 years it`s possible that the polish will be a little thick %26amp; difficult to use...my suggestion is to pitch it %26amp; start over with new polish!!!...in some other countries, nail polish bottles usually have the date the polish was manufactured %26amp; an expiration date, which i think they should start doing here!!!
