Nail polish help?

i stopped biting my nails a few months ago and they are long now. i got manicures a few times and they looked great. however, i%26#039;ve been painting my nails at home lately, and the nail polish just wont stick to my nails. i use nail hardener as a base coat, and when i put that under my nail polish, it peels off the next day. all of the edges start to lift of and then if you try to cut off the lifted edge, it just continues to lift and peel off. and if the edge is lifted, you can pull the nail poish off in one piece! ive tried using the nail hardener as a top coat and it still is making my nail polish peel off like crazy. i can%26#039;t get the polish to stay on for more than a day. ive tried using no nail hardener and just nail polish and it peels off. does anyone know some really good nail polishes or ones that stay on for a long time? thanks!

Nail polish help?
You mentioned you get manicures - sometimes they file your nails so so so smooth and thin - it looks lovely. But! They remove the rough layer, which makes is much easier when you put nail varnish on, as it %26#039;sticks%26#039; better. Also, such chipping from the edges means your nails flex - they are too soft. The shorther the nail, the less flexing surface. Definitely use base coat, there are specific base coats, named that for a reason. And, no matter what the adverts say, after 2 -3 days all nail varnishes start to chip and peel. It is just the way it is. I love L%26#039;Oreal and Bourjois.
Reply:Try N.Y.C. It might work. Also, put on more than one coat of paint. One time, I did three coats of color and two coats of clear, and it stayed for a week, even though it took a while to do. I used a light color, so it would take quicker because I didn%26#039;t have to worry about it showing on my skin. You%26#039;re not the only person with nail polish problems. Sometimes, nail polish on my right thumb turns purple! Weird! Congrats on quitting your habit. I%26#039;m still working on it. :]
Reply:ive had the same problem too. when ever i paint my nails i dont use a base coat, i just apply 2 coats of the color nail polish then a clear coat. some brands i like are OPI and also supprisingly enough the NYC nail glossies (i know that isnt usually the best brand but it works!)
Reply:It%26#039;s important to buy good quality nail polish. Also, nail polish has a shelf life,it could have gone bad. Make sure you wash your nails before you apply polish and there isn%26#039;t oil or lotion on your hands. When you apply polish make sure you go just underneath the nail tip as well.
Reply:OPI nail polish is good. and before you paint your nails wipe them with a bit of nail polish remover thats seemed to help me.. haha maybe it%26#039;s peeling off because your putting on to many coats? i would just use two (: hope this helps
Reply:don%26#039;t use a chip-off nail polish if u do u have to put a nice top coat to it.u shouldn%26#039;t use nail hardner u should use a good clear coat.
Reply:make sure your nail polish costs over 6 bucks.. if not theyre crap

and make sure you do a top %26amp; bottom coat of clear polish

good brands:

hard candy

revalon

sally haynes
Reply:you should use one of those primer coats that are clear and put on your polish and then put on a top coat . unless youve already tried that? or you are using cheapo polish . (:
Reply:try some different tryps and prand of nail polish. iv had the same problem, and i just turned out to be cheap nailpolish.
Reply:Ummm- Nail Lacquer is a great nail polish. I%26#039;m wearing it right now! It doesn%26#039;t come off easily.
Reply:buy good nailpolish
Reply:wetseal is a pretty good one or bonbon

Reply:try the no chip top coat. base coat won%26#039;t do nothing for the top of the polish. i had the same problem, but i just ended up cutting my nails down. it%26#039;s hard when your nails are long to keep polish on them. make sure the nail bed is clean and dry and that there%26#039;s no oils on it. also try not to make the polish too thick on the nail when applying, if you have thick polish just use one coat cause you have to remember, you are wearing base, then polish then top coat and that%26#039;s a whole lot of layers...lol. it also might depend on your nail color brand. i go to the beauty supply store and get the same polish they use in the salons it last a lot longer. and then i just use the wet n wild no chip top coat.
Reply:I do nails so listen... Check your nail polishes get rid of all the cheap imitations! Those generally don%26#039;t work. Sometimes you get lucky and find a good one. but not often. Second. Go to target or where ever you get your stuff. Get one of those nail buffer/sawers, many of them come in block with like 4 sides or something~purchase that and nail polish from Sally Hansen%26#039;s Collection (the best stuff). The top layer of your nails will be fairly oily so wash your hands clean, than buff your nails, than apply sally hansen nail polish. No need for base coat or top coat.
